Featuring arcade quality controls that you can use at home, the VX Fighting stick by HORI is my preferred choice when playing the huge list of supported games on the Xbox360.
The Fighting stick VX boasts a six button color coded array, with a multi directional joystick, providing precise controls even in the most intense gaming session..
Being that this is a fully licensed Xbox 360™ controller, it is supported by Microsoft’s core 360 controller driver for Windows. The VX also consists of a high build quality, with HORI opting for a steel and ABS housing. The bottom plate is comprised of 2.5mm plate steel (approximate), while the top section is made from a strong ABS, with a smooth laminated palm section in the control area.
Along the top of the control area there are some more features that can give you an edge when playing games like Mortal Combat. The VX features TURBO buttons, a.k.a Rapid Fire for you FPS fans out there, this allows a custom ‘repeat’ timer which emulates pressing a certain button super fast. There are three repeat speed options for the main action keys, A, B, X, Y, Left Trigger and Right Trigger. This leads into my first and only minor issue with the VX, it has no analog trigger functions, now this ‘shouldn’t’ be an issue with 99% of fighting games out there but it would have been interesting to see it implemented.
Moving along the left of the top control panel, there are the basic interface buttons, including; Start, Select, Home, Left Bumper and Right Bumper. Again the placement of the L and R bumpers is an odd one, however they too aren’t used very often in the games I tried out.
Due to the fight stick having a steel bottom plate, it feels planted and firm when using it on a table, yet not uncomfortable if being used in your lap. The cable is nice and long, at two meters, which more than compensates for the lack of wireless connectivity. One last feature is, the VX supports a headset, the port is also placed in a way that you shouldn’t be getting tangled up in cables when pulling off a finishing move.
The VX Fight Stick is, well, beautiful.. I really like the simple clean design, which means it won’t look out of place in the majority of setups. I personally am happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone looking for their first arcade stick for the 360 or PC.
At this price, it’s hard to beat.
